How tall is tall enough to top plants for clones?

Answer

I would wait until the plants are at least three feet high before taking clones as they would have more branch nodes at that height and would produce more clones and have enough plant left over to re-grow and flower.

Should I concern myself with soil amendments or K.I.S.S.?

When picking a soil you should decide if you want  "organics"/dirt or a soil less mixture like peat moss or rock wool. Dirt leaves an earthy taste in the buds and rock wool is very dependant on nutrient induction and requires extensive flushing before harvest. I prefer using a peat moss/ pearlite/vermiculite/dolomite lime soil less mixture with trace elements.

For cloning what rooting agent would you suggest?

There are so many different brands to use its hard to say which will work the best for you but I use the blue rooting gel mixed with the pink rooting powder for a double shot and I root 95% of my clones where as when I was using just on or the other I only had a 75% success rate.
